OKIDATA OL800 Software Support
- Microsoft Windows 3.0 & 3.1 driver installation.
The OL800 Windows driver files include an installation utility.
This program, "INSTALL.EXE" will expand the OL800 driver files
and copy them to your hard drive.
The OL800 Windows driver requires 226K bytes of disk space.
Before you begin this procedure:
a) Know the hard drive and directory location of your Windows files.
or example: C:\WINDOWS
PROCEDURE:
1. From the DOS prompt, run the OKIDATA program INSTALL.EXE.
The program INSTALL.EXE was created when you expanded
the OKILINK driver file.
2. The INSTALL program will initialize and display additional
information. Read the messages and press the Enter key to continue.
3. If necessary, type the name of the directory that contains your
Windows files. The program INSTALL will verify your selection.
If a WIN.COM file is not found you may be asked to enter a
different location.
4. The Windows driver files will be uncompressed and copied to your
hard drive. A message will indicate that the installation is
complete. Make a note of the location where the files were copied.
5. After the files are uncompressed you will be given two options:
a) Press [Enter] to allow the program to continue and
finish the installation. The program INSTALL will
update your WIN.INI file with new driver information
and assign the driver to the default port, LPT1.
The original WIN.INI file will be saved as WIN1.OKI.
The program will return to the main menu where
you may exit.
- or -
b) Exit the program by pressing [Esc] and complete the driver
installation from within Windows. Start Windows and use
the CONTROL PANEL and PRINTERS to Add an Unlisted printer.
The new driver files will be located in the Windows
sub-directory "\SYSTEM". (For example, C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).
The Microsoft Windows User's Guide contains additional information on
using the Control Panel and Installing/Configuring printers.
USING THE OL800 "B, F, and S2" FONTS:
Your OL800 printer contains a number of fixed pitch fonts.
Some of these fonts are grouped as "B, F and S2" cartridge fonts.
Although the B and F fonts are built into your OL800, the term cartridge
is used because these two groups were originally provided on separate
font cartridges known as the B cartridge and the F cartridge.
Note: The following combinations of internal font cartridges may be made
active from the printers front panel: B, F, S2, S2+B or S2+F
ACTIVATING THE "B, F and S2" FONTS:
Before using the internal font cartidges they must be made active from
within your OL800 printer.
1. With the printer power on and display indicating ON-LINE,
press the [ON-LINE] button once to place the printer OFF-LINE.
2. Press the [MENU] button until the display reads HP CARTRIDGE.
3. Press the [+] button to toggle through the following options:
B --- B cartridge active.
F --- F cartridge active.
S2 --- S2 cartridge active.
S2-B --- S2 and B active.
S2-F --- S2 and F active.
NONE --- Only Courier is active.
4. When the desired option is displayed, press the [ENTER] button.
An asterisk ( * ) will appear indicating the selection will become active.
5. Press the [ON-LINE] button. The selected fonts are now active within
your printer. These fonts can now be used by software applications that
support the "B, F and S2" font cartridges.
USING B,F,S2 WITH THE OL800 WINDOWS DRIVER:
When selecting an Internal Cartridge from the CARTRIDGES list in the
Printer Setup, there are several items which an operator must remember.
1. Whenever selecting an internal cartridge from the Cartridges List
in the Windows OL800 Printer Driver, the corresponding internal
cartridge must be selected the OL800 front panel. Failure to do
this will result in text being printed in an incorrect font style.
2. Remember that only one of the OL800 internal cartridges
can be active at a single time. Use caution when selecting the
internal cartridges from the printer setup so that only one is
selected at a time.
TO PRINT A SAMPLE OF PRINTER FONTS:
1. With the printer power on, press the [ON-LINE] button once to place the
printer OFF-LINE.
2. Press the PRINT FONTS button. The printer's display will indicate:
"PRINT FONTS." The printer will generate a font sample within 20 seconds.
As indicated by the printed font sample, the B and F groups are made
up of Swiss and Dutch fonts. The Okidata font names "Swiss" and
"Dutch" are equivalent to the fonts "Helvetica" and "Times Roman"
found on the original B and F cartridges.
